On the Border 40th Anniversary: August 21st 2010Once upon a time there was...Knighton Festival 1970 aka "A Day in the Country"On August 23rd 1970, Wales had its first rock festival. Admittedly, it was just on the border and a little smaller than "Woodstock", but what made the one-day Knighton Festival unique was the fact that it was "organized" by a bunch of school kids with no money and a lot of cheek. Yet, magically, most things worked out well and, once all the bills were paid, there was even a small profit. The Sixties were over but British blues and psychedelia were in fine form and Knighton's festival line-up included some of the period's finest. On the day the sun shone, the music flowed and a good time was had by all. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of that event several of the original organizers are presenting a night of great music in and around Knighton’s Community Centre on the very spot where the stage was erected in 1970. On August 21st 2010 we invite you to go dance crazy with SKA LEGENDS... ![]() The running order of events will be approximately as follows: 3.30pm - Acoustic sessions on outside bar stage featuring local performers. 4.30pm - Big Busk rehearsal in bar.
